warcraft subscription fees

Do you know a subscription-free solo-friendly MMORPG?

I played World of Warcraft pretty heavily (and enjoyed it thoroughly) but am turned off by the subscription fees. Do you have any suggestions for an MMORPG that is similar to WoW, but without the fees? I liked that I could level as a solo player without necessarily being forced to party for quests (though I don’t mind parties too much), and that my character “rested” while I was away, throwing a bone to a busy person. And I liked the wide variety of ages; I didn’t feel like I was stuck with a bunch of kids, but wasn’t surrounded by old farts either. I would enjoy a female-friendly RPG, but not one that is cutesy or patronizing. Do you have any ideas?

Maybe you need to try Runescape, or MapleStory. In MapleStory, there are a few party quests here and there, but it’s got addorable little monsters, and all kinds of users, young, and old! And it’s free…
